TAKE ANDA MUSEUM

TAKE ANDA.png

More than two decades of research, based on hundreds of rare first-hand accounts of "pre-contact", the time before the arrival of the outside word, is housed here at the Take Anda Museum.

Mysterious stone artefacts, the arrival of the sweet potato and the great ceremonial wars, are among the many fascinating tales and and objects presented, capturing the history of Enga from the time of the arrival of the Engan people and how their traditional lifestyle evolved.

TRADITIONAL CUSTOMS, VALUES & LORE

Take Anda translates to "House of Values", and the walls inside feature and ancient sayings which served as a guide to the morals and values of Engan societies.

Discover the purpose and significance of distinctly Engan traditional customs, ceremonies and rituals as recounted by Enga's oral historians.

CULTURAL EDUCATION

The research housed at the Take Anda Museum was collected by a team of anthropologists, led by Dr Polly Wiesner and Museum Director Akii Tumu and is one of the most extenstive collections of its kind in the world.

It's such a treasure trove of knowledge that a teaching curriculum has been developed from this research and it's now taught in schools throughout Enga Province.

LOCATION & OPENING HOURS

Take Anda Museum is located in Wabag Town, 30 mins drive from Wapenamanda AIrport. There are daily flights from Port Moresby to Enga.
